 The government's projection proved correct, it surpassed the losses from Hurricane Katrina. The 2005 megastorm that ravaged New Orleans and the surrounding region cost 125 billion US dollars, according to the Insurance Information Institute." The overall economic impact could be higher as the estimate does not include the impact of power shortages and be other issues. You hope that such a huge terrible disaster will never be repeated, don't you?

2011年3月11日に東日本大震災が発生してから7年もの月日が経ちました。あの日あの恐ろしい自然災害が起こって、津波の甚大な被害によって1万5千人以上の人が亡くなり、今なお2,500人以上の行方不明者がいます。ジャパンタイムズSTは震災の当初、「2011年3月23日時点での内閣府の試算によると、この震災と津波により壊滅的なダメージを受けた東北地方にもたらされた直接的な損害額は25兆円（309憶米ドル）とされ、歴史上最も広範囲にわたる自然災害と言われました。７県の広範囲にわたる損害は家屋や建物、道路やライフライン、ビジネスに関する多くを破壊しました。」と報じました。政府の予想はおおむね間違いないことが証明されました。アメリカの保険情報機関によると、東日本大震災の被害額は、アメリカのニューオーリンズや周辺地域に打撃を与えたハリケーンカトリーナの被害額125憶米ドルを超えていたのです。経済的な被害は計り知れず、その後の電力不足も深刻な問題となりました。もう二度と、このような恐ろしい災害が起こらないでほしいと、願うのみです。
