Extracurricular activities for children and their educational cost(子どもの課外活動と教育費)
In Japan, junior high and high school students have club activities at their schools after classes. This isn't mandatory, but most students join these clubs. My son belongs to the baseball club of his junior high school and practices playing baseball every morning (7:30-8:10) and after lessons. (16:30-18:50)
It seems so hard for him to keep the mental strength to withstand the hard practice every day. Of course their coaches who are just ordinary teachers are required to join these practices and give them sports coaching. The teachers also must keep their mental strength to withstand the low allowances(salary) and their life without days off.
The average amount of the educational costs for children (even elementary school students) has been increasing to 25,000 yen a month.(the extracurricular activities cost is included.)
Many Japanese professional athletes have come from such a hard situation with their teacher's best efforts and students' hard practices.
